Peace Island

I actually thought this story was a bit of idle gossip when I first heard it, so I didn’t blog about it. Turns out it’s all true, folks, Wee Cumbrae is to be renamed Peace Island, and 400 Indians are to descend on Big Cumbrae during the Illuminations Weekend.
Illuminations weekend is somehow quintessentially Scottish consisting, as it does, of all the shops and a fair few houses putting lights, displays, candles, photos etc in their windows, sometimes with a loose theme- sometimes not. Then there’s a firework display.
Somehow I hope the influx of another culture will work OK and the visitors will be as enchanted by the home made illuminations as everybody else.. I also hope that they use the cafes and shops, but the word on the street is that they are strict veggies and will not be partaking of any rolls and sausage in the Ritz.
The actual renaming of the island seems very bizzare- a case of life imitating art, considering my attempt to get it renamed Cardy.
Perhaps I should shake off my second best Ermine, and row over and introduce myself?!

I do hope yo will tell them about the girls and give them a discount when the girls go to work there

No, no Taddoe, not those kind of Indians- not Native Americans.. the Indians from ..er.. India! The other kind of Indians is this weekend -Country And Western weekend, when lots of cheery Glaswegians decend on Millport and dress up as the Wild West..
It’s hardly surprising everybody is a bit confused…
I don’t think it’s going to do too much for Scottish/ Indian relations though…
But I wonder if they need accomodation??
Or..other services, as you say, Taddoe??

  3. Flying Cat Says:

I don’t think it will either landlady, especially having read some of the comments on the original article. Will the gay folks be transported to Peace Island (aye right) in droves in order to be ‘cured’? It sounds like a very good argument for communal land ownership…
On the other paw, the George St Girls might make a killing if they…er…broaden their horizons…

  4. thelandlady Says:

Oh my giddy aunt. Just as well Donnie my gay hairdresser wasn’t lassoed up and carted off this weekend while he and Perfect Daughter were at Country and Western…
It certainly makes me wish somebody a little less bigoted had bought Wee Cumbrae… Watch this space…

There was an article in the Independent today about Little Cumbrae and the renaming. Seemingly some Guru named Guru Ramdev who believes that Yoga can cure anything (Aids, cancer etc) will be visiting for the inauguration on 27th September. Approach with caution!

  7. Flying Cat Says:

Maybe it was a wee boo-boo…they really meant Yogi. See that bear? He kin dae anyhing

  8. thelandlady Says:

Yup that’s the one, Mia, it’s the talk of the town.. :???:
FC ,personally I think its true that Yogi is exceptionally skilled in getting picnic boxes open and running away from cross campers…but I’ve yet to find any reference to curing AIDS.. also was there not something goin on with him and Boo Boo? They seemed awfully good friends to me !! and Baba Ramdev is not exactly a big fan of that sort of thing…

The Island may bring peace of mind to those skeptics, who learn to learn from within their own day to day experiences.
The unique thing about Maharishi is he teaches, what he learnt from his own experiences; while learning from the writings of great medical doctor Patanjali.
Patanjali noticed all individuals have a set pattern ( five modes) of engagement of mind.
They could be happy or unhappy modes. Negative or Positive modes.
The second mode is when mind sees/interprets /reacts/confuses negatively, and incorrectly this is true of 100% of individuals .
On the other hand those who are stressed or ill mentally this mode is increasingly the engagement of day.
Patanjali set out a fully comprehensive holistic system of Yoga that prepared mind body and Saul to become fit.
The whole system uses simple techniques that frees mind of negative thoughts, and makes body fit by diet control and training by Yogic postures.
Patanjali follows Sankhya philosophy that believes in existence of Atma, Saul which is sort
of a pure form of a God Particle that is of pure nature.Does not die ,is not born.Is neither male or female. Can not burn or get wet. Gets depressed or estatic.
Atma is the real knowledge of ones existance. Hence we have either a male or female or body. But Saul is neither male or female.
Mind can suffer from Body size confusion, lead to aneroxia or gender confusion( stress of sexuality).
Patanjali system balances the personality and boosts immune system by oxygen therapies
(pranayama),balanced diet( aryurveda) and thought control.
Maharishi does not cure anything. He allows a person to do that. He empowers by teaching the Patanjali methods. People practice to achieve or refuse ,not to achieve results.
He asks people if they had any chronic symptoms before starting the practice, and if there are any changes in the size of the lump (cancer)?
With Maharishi Ramdev, he makes every (one who gives a try) wiling patient the expert doctor. Every experimenter a healthy expert .

Patanjali says an individual is neither the mind or the body.Name just a label for the body.

I’ve allowed this comment in the interests of a balanced argument to Ramdev’s methods and teachings.

  11. onlloker Says:

    Thank you land lady.
    Please have an open mind.
What mind thinks first time is always wrong.
Then it corrects itself with experience.
    Try RAMDEV YOUTUBE< PRANAYAYAMA.
    SKY tv 807 5.00am to 7.30 am.
You can get high without paying for alcohol or drugs! on oxygen therapy.
A great way to give up smoking or overeating!

Dear onlloker—–sorry LL i am a trained nurse:I practise yoga twice a week(perhaps not enough) but when I read and hear c**p about curing certain diseases ,it makes my blood boil!!!!!P.S I am a great believer in “mind over body theory’s but enough is enough!!

  13. Barney Says:

LL if you are going over to The Kingdom of Cardy, you go as QUEEN! And no “rowing over”, where’s yer dignity, wummin? But I don’t think the lads are interested in this lot, they’ve got the George Street coordinates punched into the GPS… of course, I’d follow you everywhere and anywhere, but one old codger scarcely enhances your image. Take a spot of advice and steer clear. Please ask Les Girls to steer clear too. Thanks in advance.

  14. taddoe Says:

LL –really am sorry about my comment above  but I had to say it-you know why!

  15. onlloker Says:

    Hi Taddoe,
Good to hear from a person who is normal and fits with Patanjali’s second observation.
When ever a person see different and new and unknown the mind responds always negatively.

When one learns by reading from a text book,by attending a lecture that is not true knowledge.
We have in our Patanjali Yoga classes two retired GPs who have joined after cronic illness and found health improvements, and a Dentist who teaches every Friday who thinks Yoga gave him a new lease of life.
Real learning and wisdom comes from deep insight of self experience and self realisation.

Real Yoga is not necessarily posture exercises. It is mind being so absorbed in any activity
that it is one with inner-self. You could just be riding a bicycle!
However Patanjali yoga is different,It is eight pronged yoga discipline. It involves body, mind, thought process control, emotional balance, postures, energy training, meditation, diet, pranayam (oxygen breathing therapy), concentration, relaxation, cleansing and detox, meditation etc etc

Did you see on news on new research last month; oxygen helps kill the cancer cells!
We all have cancer cells in our body but they don’t always start multiplying.
But experience an eventful stressful episode and immune system gets damaged.
If you are familiar with Stanford Unis, NHS Expert Patients Plan then this is it in an more active
long term daily activity format. Patanjali Yoga is patient centred.
Since you are practicing twice a week why not give a try to patanjali Yoga?
It is FREE on SKy 807 channel. 5.30 am to 7.30 am.
    Or on you tube!
Just do Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom pranayam for 15 minutes each every day.
And Bramri Pranayam five time morning and evening.

  16. taddoe Says:

onlloker–please do not start me on cancer;if you want to further this subject or others write to me personally, wher i will be more than happy to communicate with you,but not via LL’s site

  17. thelandlady Says:

As I say, I allowed onlloker’s comments in the spirit of a balanced discussion on ramdev’s teachings and beliefs.
However I will simply not allow my blog to be hijacked by him/her in order to blatantly advertise the techniques ramdev uses, nor the bloomin’ TV channel they are on.
Different strokes for different folks onllker, but perhaps you would be better to promote ramdev’s teachings elsewhere.

The uninhabited Scottish island of Little Cumbrae will host an international gathering of visitors this Sunday [27th September 09], who will be joining the Island’s new owners, Sam and Sunita Poddar, in a celebratory blessing of the land.

As many as a thousand people are expected to join in the ‘Hawan’ celebrations on Sunday 27th September, which are going to be led by one of the world’s leading yog (or yoga) experts and exponents, Swami Ramdev Ji.

Swami Ji is co-founder of the Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust (PYPT) which promotes Yog and the ancient tradition of holistic healing, native to India called Ayurved medicine. Swami Ji’s mantra that “Good health is humanity’s birth right” has attracted a following of 80 million people throughout the world.

A diverse, cross cultural audience of Patanjali Yog followers from major cities throughout the UK and overseas; invited dignitaries including the Lord Provost of North Ayrshire, Robert Rae, ministerial leaders, church leaders, academics, and healthcare professionals from Scotland, China, India, Canada, Mauritius, America, South Africa, Dubai and Europe; as well as residents from the nearby seaside towns of Largs, Fairlie and Millport will be among those present to witness the auspicious occasion.

Sam and Sunita Poddar have lived in Glasgow for 25 years and are founders of a successful care home business, called Lambhill Court Limited. They concluded the sale of the island last month for £2million and have pledged the use of the island to the Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust to establish the first five star Pranayam Yog and Ayurved medicine retreat outside of India.

Sunita Poddar who is the international co-ordinator and a trustee of the UK Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust said it was her wishes that the island had something to offer everyone. “Our aim is to make Wee Cumbrae a worldwide destination with something for the whole family to enjoy. Whether it is experiencing the rejuvenating and healing powers of Yog Pranayam and Ayurved, exploring the magnificent history of the island, enjoying the many walking trails, or experiencing the many gifts of nature this beautiful island has to offer, we want to make Wee Cumbrae accessible for everyone.”

Those wishing to attend the inaugural blessing of the island this Sunday are invited to join in the Hawan ceremony between 10.30am and 11.30am. Visitors will also be able to explore the inland lochs and walking trails on the island, as well as tour round the 13th century castle keep and Jekyll Gertrude gardens of the Victorian Mansion House. An exciting line up of entertainment has been laid on for the day and free refreshments including breakfast and lunch is also being provided.
